Route of the Castros of Baleira
This tourist route takes us to the municipality of Baleira, in Lugo, in the eastern part of the province.
We can see few archaeological sites ready to be visited. They are vestiges of the peoples of the Celtic culture that inhabited the north of the Iberian Peninsula during the Iron Age. And Baleira is a town full of such villages. The visit includes four stops:
The Castro of Antiguallas, on high ground from which dominates the valley of Córneas, this fort is one of the most important of Baleira. Remains of prehistoric houses are preserved and the area is possible to see circular constructions covered with straw Celtic heritage evidence.
Pena do Castro, in which defensive structures, a series of small walls and moats surrounding a wide croa crowned by several rocks from which the whole valley of the river Neira observed currency. It is located in Fontaneira´s place.
Castro of Degolada composed of a small outer wall, a moat and a large erected on a rock croaks.
Crowns a hill a certain altitude from which dominates almost completely Degolada parish. In this castro important material remains found.
And finally, Pena dos Mouros. In the settlement Pena dos Mouros, 8 km from the capital city, remains of preserved original building are the foundations of an old building of large proportions that the locals call “A Casa dos Mouros” in direct reference to the character of fortress must have.
